Fur and Fans

To save the parky hem from overpaint while I work on the bear's legs, I used masking tape. This way I can keep a clean edge while allowing me to lightly stroke on the layers of fur. The paws are in front of the cuffs so I didin't need to tape the arms. Since fur takes many layers, I like to work on several sections simultaneously, allowing an hour or so dry time between each. Next I added texture and design to the dance fans. Female Y'upik dancers use ornately designed fans. Male dancers also use fans, but theirs are plain. This little bear's fans are made of woven grasses and tufts of fur. I started to add detail to the mukluks, too.
