The Devil is in the Details

As I work out the details for this little painting, I like to step back and observe from across the room to see what needs to happen next.  My friend Talya taught me do this, and it's a good tool to have in one's bag of artist tricks.  Sometimes I'll prop a painting on the hutch in my kitchen where I can see it from anywhere I happen to be working.  I'll look at it over and over again, analyzing what needs to happen next.  One thing I noted from my observation of this picture was an overall flatness of my foreground characters, so I deepened the shadows on my bears and dog.  I also added a wood grain to the molding around the window and door and added color to the molding where the wall meets the floor.
I think it's almost finished!
