Changing Horses

Here I've switched to a water-based oil study of the Assayers Office in Hatcher Pass. The day I took the photo reference was a grey, flat light day.  I'm hoping to brighten up the light a bit.  I'm also exploring a more painterly style with this picture.  In case you're wondering what that means, here's the definition:

paint·er·ly  adj.
  • Of, relating to, or characteristic of a painter; artistic.
  • Having qualities unique to the art of painting.
  • A style of painting marked by openness of form, with shapes distinguished by variations of color rather than by outline or contour.
I usually paint realistically in oils and acrylics, albeit using whimsical subject matter, so this is going to be a fun change for me.
