Day 11 of the 30-in-30 Challenge with Leslie Saeta is a self portrait. It's a strange feeling to try to paint yourself. It's like writing your own obituary. This is a painting of me at the Seattle Art Museum acting like a kid in a candy store. Most people do a lot of whispering and pretending to contemplate the meaning of life when they visit an art museum. I, on the other hand, like to run about taking silly pictures, Oooooing and Ahhhing over the really good stuff, and making sarcastic comments about the really ridiculous stuff. (It's amazingly stupid what some educated people call art these days.) But since I'm almost 58 years old, I can get away with this sort of behavior.

One of my all-time favorite self portraits is Norman Rockwell's witty painting of himself painting himself painting. On my last trip to Disneyland, I was delighted to find that Disney did a clever play off this portrait, giving it a special Mickey twist.
Needless to say, I now own the print.
