GAMBEL'S QUAIL

GAMBEL'S QUAIL
I like to walk every day, and since I live on the edge of town near the mountains, I see plenty of wildlife on my sojourns. One of the cutest birds I encounter on my walks is the Gambel's Quail. I like them because they live and work together as a team, watching out for each other, constantly clucking and cooing encouragements and warnings. They move in zippy little beelines with their adorable top knots leading the way. If one happens to surprise a covey of quail amongst the shrubs, they will burst forth in unison to soar off to a safer location, in most cases, scaring one half to death. When quail chicks hatch, they are shepherded about in tight little lines like little quail wind-up toys. Peaceful and lovely, Day 17's painting is the Gambel's Quail.
