THE SUMMONING OF THE SQUASH

THE SUMMONING OF THE SQUASH

Painting #24 in Leslie Saeta's 30-in-30 Challenge.
I think I should do a 30-in-30 Challenge every September, because it really gets me in the mood for Autumn. Today I did an illustration from my imagination. You can make up your own story to go with it if you'd like. But I imagined a spooky Jack O' Lantern that comes alive when it's put on a scarecrow's body on All Hallow's Eve. At the witching hour, it begins to summon all the pumpkins left in the field to come alive as the Jack O' Lanterns they would have been if they had been picked and carried home by a child. At the stroke of Midnight, they light up and dance around the pumpkin patch, crows cawing and swooping about overhead, as the wind whistles an eerie song through the fields and trees.
